VOLUNTEERING @ THE RESTORE

We need your help!

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with multiple tasks in the ReStore.  Whether you come for one shift or once a week, we would love your help.

The Syracuse ReStore utilizes Civic Champs for our Volunteer Scheduling.  Click the button below to see our Volunteer Calendar and create your Civic Champs account.

While we ultimately love volunteers who are willing to help out wherever they are needed, we do have several specific volunteer positions available at the ReStore.

Donation Ambassador | Co-Pilot

  • Assist ReStore employee with donation pick-ups in ReStore box truck

  • Interact with donors, promote the mission of Syracuse Habitat and the ReStore, and show appreciation for donations

  • Involves heavy lifting – help load truck on-site and unload truck at ReStore

  • Large amounts of travel time - we pick up donations across Onondaga County

  • Help screen donations by becoming familiar with what we can and cannot accept

  • May also help process incoming donations

       Ability to lift 50+ pounds

Donation Processor

  • Accept in-store donations

  • Provide donors with donation receipts

  • Clean and sort incoming donations

  • Test appliances

  • Research pricing information for ReStore Staff

  • Help screen donations by becoming familiar with what we can and cannot accept

  • May also assist with scheduling donation pick-ups

       Some computer skills preferred

Retail Associate / Greeter

  • Greet, guide, and offer to assist customers on the sales floor in a courteous manner

  • Answer product questions

  • Move large products to the check-out using dollies/carts

  • Assist with cleaning and organization of sales floor and inventory

  • Answer phones with permission of ReStore Staff

       Likes interacting with customers

General Handyman

  • Assist with building new displays in the ReStore

  • Repair, prepare, and assemble donated merchandise

  • Refurbish donated items

  • Utilize hand and power tools, paint, building materials, etc.

  • Test appliances

  • Assist with cleaning donations

       Construction and/or woodworking skills, handy

DIY Instructor / Planner

  • We would like to implement a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) program with items from the ReStore

  • Volunteers would help plan projects, assist with marketing, and instruct classes

  • Teach others to do DIY projects, must have patience to guide first-time learners

  • *Note* This program is in its infancy, we are looking for volunteers who are interested in getting it off the ground.

       Craft and/or art skills required

VOLUNTEERING

COURT-ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE

You may be able to complete your hours at the ReStore.

The Syracuse ReStore accepts volunteers who are required to perform court-ordered community service, with a few exceptions.  In order to complete Court-Ordered Community Service at Syracuse Habitat for Humanity, you must complete the following steps:

 

  1. Download & read the Court-Ordered Community Service Guidelines below.

  2. Download, complete, and sign the Community Service Agreement.

  3. Submit the Community Service Agreement to Syracuse Habitat for approval.

  4. ONLY AFTER APPROVAL, schedule shifts on Civic Champs.

 

*No hours will be verified unless all of these steps have been completed prior to volunteering.*

Partial List of Requirements
  • Court-Ordered Community Service cannot be performed at Syracuse Habitat for Humanity for charges of the following: theft, assault, weapons possession, sexual-related offenses, or felonies.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must volunteer in the ReStore - Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers are not allowed on a Build Site without prior permission of Syracuse Habitat for Humanity Executive Director.

  • The Court-Ordered Community Service Acknowledgement form must be submitted prior to the start of your service.

  • You must register on Civic Champs and use Civic Champs to sign up for your service days. Bring your Liability Waiver with you on your first day of service.

  • Syracuse Habitat for Humanity reserves the right to terminate the agreement for community service if the participant is unproductive, is disruptive or in any way negatively impacts the accomplishments of the organization’s mission.
