The Central New York Community Foundation recently
provided a grant in the amount of $15,000 as seed
funding for the ReStore, a retail business that will
sell inexpensive home improvement materials to the
community. This grant marks an exciting step forward
in the ReStore Project, which will assist Syracuse
Habitat by providing additional funds for the building
of affordable housing in Onondaga County.
The Syracuse ReStore is based on the more than 65
successful stores in operation across the nation and
will operate as a non-profit program of Syracuse
Habitat for Humanity, Inc. Many of you are familiar
with the success of the warehouse sales that the
affiliate has held for the last couple of years. The
ReStore Project is a direct descendent of this idea
and will help us to continue the success of these
sales in a consistent manner. Syracuse Habitat is
very excited about the many benefits of the ReStore:
not only will we be able to help more families through
the building of additional homes, we will also be
keeping usable materials our of our local landfills
and incinerators. Additionally, the ReStore will
provide materials at a low cost that will make home
improvements possible for anyone, regardless of income
constraints.
Syracuse Habitat is grateful to the
Community Foundation for their support and recognition
of this project. The $15,000 awarded from the John F.
Marsellus Fund will be used for necessary building
renovations and equipment purchases that are key to
the success of the Syracuse ReStore. |
